The shelf in late October, when the light outside has turned and the room needs to hold it. Hand-blown in the Czech Republic, where Bohemian glassmakers developed some of Europe's most celebrated coloured glass techniques in the 19th century — the amber and sulphide yellows that made the region's export houses famous. Each piece carries the slight asymmetry that comes from a single breath shaping molten glass. At 23cm it works alone or beside quieter pieces. The kind of vase that earns its place by the quality of what it does with light.
